Intention vs. Intentionality

Dec 10, 2025

A Quick Story (and a very real holiday brain moment)…

The other day, I was reviewing my weekly plan and launch and caught myself thinking,

“Wait… didn’t I already take care of this?”

But no — I hadn’t.

intended to.

I thought about it.

I mentally rehearsed it.

And honestly, I even felt a little burst of productivity just thinking about doing it.

And then — because it’s the holiday season and my brain is juggling 47 tabs at once — my husband shared his great idea:

“Let’s make homemade ravioli and bolognese from scratch and bring it with us to the rental house in NJ for our Christmas Eve entree.”

It’s thoughtful.

It’s delicious.

And it’s… a whole production.

Which sent me right back into that moment of:

“Okay, Gina… what are you actually doing versus what you think you’re doing?”

And my inner coach voice said:

Intention lives in your mind.

Intentionality lives in your actions.

Why This Matters So Much Right Now

This stretch from now through the end of the year is when the gap between intention and intentionality becomes especially dangerous.

Because this is the time when we say things like:

“I’m going to tighten things up…”

“I’m going to reconnect with partners…”

“I’m going to get ready for the new year…”

“I’m going to close strong…”

“I’m going to reset my routines…”

But unless those intentions turn into intentionality —

clear actions, clear structure, clear follow-through —

they remain… cool ideas.

And  cool ideas in an of themselves, do not create results. .

Actions do.

The Distinction Most Professionals Miss

Intention is:

• a desire

• a hope

• a plan

• a “should”

• a mental draft

Intentionality is:

• the action

• the follow-through

• the structure

• the behavior

• the discipline

The gap between intention and intentionality is the gap between ‘I planned to…’ and ‘I did.

The smaller that gap becomes, the more consistent—and powerful—your results get.

Before We Go Any Further, Here’s Your Awareness Challenge For This Week

Ask yourself:

Where am I operating with intention, but not intentionality?

Pick ONE area.

No judgment — just curiosity.

Because awareness is the doorway to progress.

Next week, we’re going to take this even deeper:

We’ll break down exactly how to convert your intentions into intentionality so you can close the year with clarity, discipline, and momentum — setting yourself up for the strongest possible start to 2026.

For now, just notice the gap.
