Habit 7 Sharpen the Saw
Jul 09, 2025
This series has been designed to provoke reflection, elevate awareness, and help turn insight into consistent, aligned action. This week, we wrap up with Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw.
This habit is about investing in the one asset you can’t afford to burn out: Yourself.
High performers often push past fatigue, ignore the signals, and wear “grind mode” like a badge. Until suddenly… the edge is gone. Focus dulls. Energy dips. Results flatten.
Habit 7 is the reminder:
You can’t produce at a high level sustainably if you don’t renew with intention.
Sharpening the saw means taking deliberate action to keep your edge—across four key areas:
-
Physical: Sleep. Movement. Nutrition. Recovery. You don’t need a life overhaul—just consistent care that supports the energy you demand of yourself.
-
Mental: Read, think, learn, challenge your perspective. Stagnant thinking leads to stagnant growth.
-
Emotional: Healthy relationships, emotional intelligence, time for connection. You can’t lead others well if you’re constantly reacting or drained.
-
Spiritual: Purpose, values, stillness, faith—whatever centers you beyond your performance. Without depth, even success starts to feel hollow.
This is one of my personal favorites—because it’s the one that reminds me I’m not just building a business, I’m building a life. And if I’m not sharp, everything else suffers.
And here’s what I believe:
This habit is a difference maker. The professionals who protect their edge—who learn to renew as fiercely as they execute—will always outperform those who try to grind their way there.
This habit doesn’t shout. It whispers. It’s quiet. Unurgent. Easy to skip.
But it’s also the one that makes everything else possible—and sustainable.
This week, ask yourself and really reflect on these questions:
-
What’s one area of my life I’ve been ignoring that’s quietly dulling my performance?
-
What does “sharpening the saw” actually look like for me—and where do I need to stop apologizing for it?
-
If I treated my energy like my most important asset, what would I do differently this week?
Challenge:
Choose one way to sharpen your edge this week—and treat it like your next business move. Because it is.
As we close out this 7-week series, remember this:
Mastery is never about a single habit—it’s about the integration of all of them.
It’s how you think, how you lead, and how you show up when no one’s watching.
If this series has helped you think differently or lead more intentionally, I hope you keep these habits close. The real growth happens when the series ends—and your intentional practice begins.
Keep sharpening. Keep building. Keep becoming.
