Don’t Move So Fast You Miss What Happens

May 06, 2026

This week, as Gina is navigating the unexpected loss of her father, I felt like this message might resonate with more of you than just her.

Just last week, my son was visiting me in Maryland from San Diego.

He had come to pick up my dad’s pickup truck—something he inherited when my dad passed away in January.

As he planned the drive back cross-country, we mapped everything out.

Routes. Weather. Timing.

The goal was simple: drive 12–13 hours a day and be back by Sunday in time for work.

A solid plan.

A disciplined plan.

But on Day 1… something shifted.

He made a very conscious decision to let go of that plan.

Instead of pushing through, he slowed down.

He stopped.

He explored.

He found beautiful places, tried great food trucks, and somewhere along the way… he felt my dad riding with him coaxing him to stop speeding and just enjoy the ride.

What could have been a rushed, exhausting drive turned into something meaningful.

Something he’ll remember forever.

And it got me thinking about all of you.

The typical message we so often focus on is:

  • Structure

  • Process

  • Discipline

  • The cadence that creates consistency

And all of that matters. It’s what builds momentum.

But here’s what matters just as much…

Why you’re doing it in the first place.

Because if you lose sight of that—

if every day just becomes about the next file, the next call, the next condition—

you might “stick to the plan”…

but miss the experience entirely.

This week, I want to challenge you to do both:

✔ Stay committed to your structure

✔ Execute your process

✔ Show up for your borrowers and partners

And…

✔ Slow down just enough to connect

✔ Ask one more meaningful question

✔ Be fully present in one conversation today

Because that’s where the real relationships are built.

That’s where trust is created.

That’s what turns a transaction into something that actually matters.

Momentum isn’t just about how fast you move.

It’s about moving with intention.

I’m thinking of Gina and her family this week.

And I’m thinking of each of you—building not just a business, but a life that is full of joy and some unexpected outcomes.

Keep going.

Just don’t forget to feel it along the way.
